Create clear records from receipt to stock
For receiving, inspection, put-away, transfers, counting and dispatch, define material codes, lots, quantities, units and locations. Timely transaction records keep inventory status current and reduce the effort caused by mismatches between system balances and physical stock.
Barcode and label workflows should build on existing identifiers and shop-floor scanning conditions. Confirm label content, print points, scanning devices and exception handling before defining tasks, helping prevent data-quality issues from duplicate codes or unreadable labels.
Translate production demand into warehouse work
Work orders, schedules or replenishment rules can drive picking and delivery tasks, with records for picking, checking, handoff and line-side receipt. Warehouse and production teams can compare required quantities with issued materials and shortages, then handle substitutions or sequence changes.
For materials with lot or shelf-life controls, selection, first-in-first-out or usage restrictions can follow company policy, with issued lots linked to production records. These rules must match the customer’s material controls so automated suggestions do not conflict with quality requirements.
Connect ERP, MES and logistics workflows
A WMS may exchange master data, documents and status information with ERP, MES or delivery systems where required. Interface scope, data ownership, retry handling and reconciliation should be agreed in advance so cross-system exceptions have a clear owner.
Before go-live, review zones, locations, materials and opening balances, and agree on counting and cutover. Validate receiving, put-away, picking and line-side confirmation in a representative warehouse or route before expanding. Final workflows depend on site discovery and project scope.
